how do i reboot my android phone?

Have you tried holding the power button down for a couple seconds until the restart menu appears? If that doesn't work, just take the battery out for a few seconds, put it back in and power on.

Alternatively, if the device has been rooted, you can use an app called "Booty Call" which presents options to switch off, reboot, reboot in recovery, and reboot in download mode.

If i remember correctly only a few manufacturers make use of download mode.
