Receiving distorted pictures

Whenever my wife or son send me pictures that they have taken with the camera on their lg g3's, they come through on my end all distorted. I mean that they might be yellow or green in color and then the picture itself will be block looking. Anyone know what might be causing this. I've looked at their camera settings and don't see anything out of the ordinary. I'll try and send a screen shot so you can see first hand what I'm talking about. Also, if she sends them to me through Facebook messenger, they show up fine. This happens on my stock messaging app as well as my Textra app.

Given it sounds like your talking about pictures being transferred via text there's probably an issue where the photos are being auto-scaled down. Texting isn't like email, it's based a very low bandwidth communication so when photos and videos are too high a resolution they get scaled down. Some services will allow higher res transfers but it involves same to same services on both ends, that is iMessage user to iMessage user, or WhatsApp user to WhatsApp user. But with so many different companies vying to have their own proprietary protocol there's still a lot of conflict between different texting apps, leaving the established SMS/MMS as the only common link between them. Plus different apps and different carriers have different limits to their texting bandwidth so there's that issue to take into consideration.

As a test have your wife or son text you a photo and then email you the exact same photo. If the emailed photo is OK, you've got several options.
- Your wife and son could change their respective camera settings to use a lower resolution (not a good option really).
- All of you switch to a service like WhatsApp so sharing content is more seamless.
- There are a number of file sharing services where you can just upload something like a photo, and then you just pass along a stated link to whomever you want to share that photo. My favorite is https://securesha.re Uploads and downloads are encrypted, no keys or logs are kept so if some government agency comes along demanding to see anything there are no records at all, and anything and everything you upload will be automatically deleted after seven days (or earlier if you change the default setting). It's limitation is your file size is limited to 10 MB.
- If all of you install an app like Google Play, or Dropbox, or OneDrive on your respective phones, you'll have a) a backup solution so your photos will be on your phones plus at least one copy in an online account and b) online access to your photo libraries along with the ability to just share photos by just sending a link. This is something you should think about, it's really important to have some kind of backup solution.
