I am having trouble saving pictures from MMS messages that others have sent to me, I click on the picture an it comes up very small and plays as a video, but I cant save it.

In order to save the MMS, from your text menu, press the picture but this time hold your finger there for about two to three seconds (this is called long pressing). That should give you the option to save the MMS.
