Oh it's just for when I'm flashing new ROMS or if the phone dies out on me really. Just asked because lately I've missed a few important texts while it was off.I don't know why you need to turn off your phone. I had Treos for the last 5 years that didn't even have an off button. If you don't want to hear alerts, just put the phone in slient mode, but leave it on.
Your not going to be able to receive texts while its off, because its, well, off. Nothing is running on the phone, except maybe the internal clock. You are completely disconnected from the network. But your carrier should hold your texts until you turn it back on and then you should receive them shortly.
Some do (SE & BB IIRC) have the option to allow alarms when the phone/smartphone functions are 'off', but not Android I believe.Oddly when I turn my phone off, it still wakes itself up when an alarm I've set goes off, I guess that's just an extension of the clock really. Certainly doesn't receive texts though.
