Recently got a GSIII

I recently got a GSIII, while I'm generally loving the device, I have a few questions:

1. Are there any good in line mic/remote adapters available?

My current earphones with ipod remote has centre button support but the mic doesn't so I want to get an adapter.

I tried the supplied ones which work so I know the phone is fine.

2. What can cause glitches when listening to music?

When walking today I noticed glitches at times, right now though sitting down there are none. I am currently trialling poweramp and have also used stock and both have suffered from it at some point.

I currently have my music on a class 4 32GB microSD card.

3. What good emulators are there?

I've tried a couple of free mega drive/genesis games but they seem to be a bit dodgy. I don't mind paying as long as the emulation is good.

4. What other reasons are there to root?

So far I have cynanogenmod, usb mass storage mode, remove stock apps and over/underclocking.

5. Do all micro-usb to female usb adapters work?

I know they changed the MHL connection but just want to make sure these aren't for USB on the go.

6. Are there any good video streaming apps for over the internet from a PC?

On the iphone I used orb but this is mediocre and was wondering what good alternatives exist.

7. Am I missing any major apps?

Try out swiftkey 3 as a new keyboard. I just got the trial and i am impressed.

Get a nintendo 64 emulator, some games that work well for me are zelda ocarinaoftime and mario 64.

"5. Do all micro-usb to female usb adapters work?"

Just got this generic one from ebay and it works fine, though with hindsight I should have looked for a USB 3.0 one.

Thanks.

I think you'll be fine with 2.0 unless you have really high speed stuff which wont be bottlenecked if it makes you feel better.

Probably although when I need to transfer video files etc I use AllShare play. The only thing I am not sure whether the GS3 is cerified as a USB 3.0 device?

I don't believe it is, at least I haven't seen anything that says either so I'm guessing it will just be 2.0.

I have to look into that allshare play though, might solve one of my issues in regards to video streaming.

Plex works awesome over 4g. Install Plex Media Server on your PC/server, download the Plex app for the market. You'll have to setup a Plex account to stream over 4g.

Samsung's AllShare Play should work too, but I haven't tried it yet. Plex is working great for me.

I did a test of AllShare Play versus Bluetooth transferring an identical video file and found ASP was about 9 times faster than Bluetooth.

What's the compression like and do you know if it's ok over 3g? In the UK the most we have is HSDPA.

Sorry to bump this thread but I was wondering what alternative methods are there to backup apps and data.

Kies seems to take an incredibly long time (hours) so I'm wondering if there is a faster method.

So far the only alternatives I have found either only backs up the APK or requires root. Or is there a way to speed up kies?

I just tried rooting anyway, unfortunately one app I use wont work while rooted (even with supersu disabled) so that isn't an option for me.

So if there a way to backup app data without rooting?

You can copy it and save it on your computer for example

Which folders?

When I unrooted my phone I had to delete data to reset the status, I then restored through kies.

The sdcard folder seems to be ok with videos remaining or did the wipe just delete the android folder for example?

The android folder is the one you can get data from it has all the apparently data I have looked for atleast

USB 2.0 FEMALE TO MICRO USB MALE DATA ADAPTER CABLE FOR SAMSUNG GALAXY S III S3 | eBay

Does this work for USB OTG (On The Go)? Because it doesn't say so in the item description. If you plug a USB flash drive into the adapter, can the phone read it?

Actually I'm not sure from the OP whether he wants OTG or wants to avoid it, as he said

"I know they changed the MHL connection but just want to make sure these aren't for USB on the go."

Did he mean the adapters or the changes to the connection...

Just had a quick look, in the mozilla folder for example it only had downloads, not e.g. profiles, etc.

I do want one.

What it was, I knew that Samsung had changed the MHL connection so that previous HDMI adapters wouldn't work (directly), but don't know for sure whether OTG uses the standard USB connection, the MHL connections or there was some other change.

No, you can just use a generic OTG adapter. But it has to be OTG, not just micro-to-female USB converter.
