Recommend me a used Verizon smartphone to use until the new ones come around.

I am fed up with Sprint in the Chicago area. No 4G, dropped calls, messaging problems, etc.
My contract is up in a few weeks. I want to go back to Verizon, though it does cost more. The current line up of phones aren't that exciting to me. I am looking forward to the Galaxy S3 or Razr HD, but I want to switch now.
My idea is to pick up a used phone on ebay for $100 or less and use it until some of the new stuff comes around. I have an Evo 4G now and would like something similar. Doesn't have to be 4G, but an android with a decent size display would be nice.
Any recommendations for a used Verizon phone around $100?

The Droid X or X2, or the Droid 2 are decent 3G phones if you're just looking for something to tide you over for a few months and can do without 4G. All have decent displays and the X has allot of dev support if you're looking to root. You should be able to find a decent deal on E-Bay or, if you find one on Craig's list, meet the seller at a Verizon store to make sure it's got a clean ESN and works before you hand over your case (E-Bay has buyer protections in place so you're better covered there)

This doesn't really fit your requirements, but if you want to try something a little different to take a break from Android, get a Palm Pre 2. Great phone and great phone OS. True multitasking and it's so much fun to flick the "cards" around.

Good score for the price! That should last you until you can get to one of the phones you want.

I haven't had a Droid 2, but have personal experience with both the X and X2. If you're into apps that download a lot of data that's stored locally (mostly games, I suppose), you might want to go with the X instead of the X2. The X has an 8GB "sd card", while the X2 has only 4GB. Here I'm referring to the internal card which is not replaceable. I have yet to see any apps from the Play Store that use the external card for their data.

My son had an X and was fine, but when Wifi stopped working properly (it ended up being a user issue, not a hardware or software problem) I "upgraded" him to an X2, and now he's routinely out of memory.

Other than that I would go with the X2, but I don't think you're likely to find a working one with a clean ESN for under $100.
