Recording a Phone Call

I'm looking for a good phone call recording app. I've used a couple that seem to do the trick. but they are a constant record and I want to be able to turn the recorder off and on during the phone conversation.

I do recorded interviews for my job and sometimes they need to be done over the phone. It would be nice to be able to make the call explain what I'm doing and then ask for permission to start the recorded interview. As mentioned most of the call recording apps start as soon as the phone call is made.

Any recommendations would be great.
Thanks, :D

Hi Pete,
Depending on where you live, you might want to find out what the legal consequences, if any, are for recording phone conversations. It may or may not be legal...

And, that said, the best way to CYA, is in fact to use an app that indeed records the entire interview from start to finish. Starting and stopping is in a way, "editing" the recording on the fly, and might be even more illegal, again depending on where you live.

If I were you, I'd simply invest in an audio editing DAW software, and edit after the fact.

It's legal. Ask for permission first at the start of the interview, then confirm that it's been recorded with their permission at the end of the interview.

Now if I could just find an app to turn on and turn off as needed during a phone conversation. Editing software is a good idea, but sounds like an extra step.

Thanks,
Pete

You just need to find an app that has a "pause" button, which can pause the recording.
I have no idea if that exists, but in my World, audio engineering, pretty much all our DAWs and tape machines do this. As to one in Android, no idea. On my iPhone, I have this:

McDSP Retro Recorder. It also does not have a pause button, but since I mostly take my recordings and dump them into Pro Tools DAW, it does not matter to me.

That app can quickly stop and then start recording, giving you a new file each time. If you only pause / stop a few times during your interview, that might actually be a good thing, to keep each part of an interview in its own file, so you don't have to go through one large audio file later on.

That, or maybe someone can code an audio recorder with pause button for you? I am too new to this, so I know I would not be able to do this.

The best ones I've used are Wanam, an Xposed module with variants for different Android versions (requires root), and Call Recorder (get the one from skvalex - there are several apps with the same name). Call Recorder may or not require root, depending upon your device.

ACR is a decent app for recording all your calls (automatically). I use it all the time. Very handy to replay your conversation if you forgot anything. It is free from the play store.
