"Red Carpet Affair"

Okay, so I need a little advice here. I got invited to this girl's "red carpet affair" for her sweet 16. My problem is only thing I know about red carpet affairs is that there's going to be a red carpet with people walking across it. I need advice on what I should expect, what I should do and be ready for ect... Basically anything you can offer. Dress ideas would be nice but I think I've got that settled as the invitation said "No suits, no jeans- something in between".

I wanna be impressive with a higher knowledge of what's going on and everything ;)

Thanks for whatever you can share! I tried googling it first but it only gave advice on how to plan one...

My advice is if you're going to a girl's "sweet 16", you're male, and you're over 17 years old, don't get caught alone with ANY female at that party......

All kidding aside, I'd say a nice jacket would be something in between a suit and just jeans. You don't have to try real hard, just go and enjoy yourself.

haha thanks, but what I'm mainly looking for is specifics as to what happens at these types of parties- I've only been to a casual dance so is this going to just be like a dance or are we going to be doing anything different? Since there's a red carpet, I'm assuming there's going to be something involved with that..

I just wanna be ready, and my parents have never been to something like this so they don't know either :p

Depends if the birthday girl's parents are going whole hog or not. I've seen some that spent a truckload of cash, rented out fancy hotel ballrooms or clubs, name bands, etc. Prepare based on where it will be.

Red carpet usually means a line up of cars or limos drop off the guests near the head of the red carpet. Then it's like the Academy Awards: the people stroll down the red carpet and you will likely have your photo taken with your date in front of a special background. Then go inside and have dinner and drinks (in your case I mean punch ;) ), then dance later. Probably a special dance for the birthday girl. DJ will run the show probably. The "red carpet" aspect is just an indication that they expect a bit more "class" from the kids. Some guys may wear tuxes. A bit more like a prom if you are familiar with that deal.

Well, personally I find social events uncomfortable, so I'd find a way out of it!

But, that's probably not what you're looking for. So I'd go with a dress shirt and slacks. That'd be fine. Just *act* like you know what you're up to, it's less about you and more about how you present yourself. At least, that's what I think.

Thanks! That's what I'm looking for. Just wanted a brief idea of what it should be... I highly doubt it's going to be just like the Academy Awards lol. Especially because I'm driving myself so I would have to park somewhere and walk my way in lol.
