Help Red Light Constantly On

Stacys

Lurker
I had my phone in my jacket at work and I hung my jacket up on the heater. When I took my jacket down I pulled my phone out of my pocket and my phone was so hot it just about burned me. My phone has shut its self off and the red light is constantly on. It will not do a thing. Anyone have a clue of what I can do or what it means.

I'd take it to the service center to get checked out. There's a safety circuit protecting you and your battery during charging - if it's been compromised, you do not want to mess around and find out the hard way.

Really sorry, hope you have insurance. :(

It sounds like overheating: the phone will shut down to protect the circuits and battery.

Leave it to cool then see whether it comes back to life in a few hours. You could try removing the battery (if that's an option).

I did wait for it to cool a few hours and nothing happened. I don't have the option to remove the battery that was the first thing I was going to try. But I did end up getting her working again. I had to hold the power button in for 10 seconds and it booted right up. So far so good but I'm hoping I didn't damage anything.

Ah yes, the forced reboot :). Glad that worked.

You'll probably be ok. The point of it shutting down is to protect the device. The battery is the most vulnerable component.

What type of phone is it? I had a similar problem on an old dumb phone (Casio GzOne) and it was a manufacturer problem and they swapped the phone out. If it is a chronic problem with the device and it is under warranty it may be worth the hassle of getting it replaced or repaired.

ZTE Max...I wasn't even thinking about the phone when I put my coat on the heater... Out heaters are steam fed and I was trying to warm my coat before going outside. This is the first time its ever happened. I really appreciate everyone's advice and comments.

OK, ignore my post, I obviously failed reading comprehension. I missed where you hung the phone on a heater. I thought it got warm on its own.
