Red light on everytime phone is awake

My phone just recently quit reacting to touch then has a red light in the notification area that comes on every time it's awake. I took the battery out and left it out for awhile then put it back in. The touch works now but the light still comes on. I'm worried it will quit working again. Any ideas to what is causing the light? Anyone else having this problem?

Doesn't a red light normally mean the battery is dying? That's what it means on the Eris.

Btw, you didn't specify your phone. We don't know what phone you have. Consider filling that out in your account settings so it will be on every post you make.
