Redefine Power button?

Is there a way to redefine the power button?

I have a problem with this phone turning on while in my pocket. I have sent some crazy texts, butt dialed, started watching youtube, etc while in my pocket.

I'd like to write something that would add a small delay, or delay on if ambient light is near zero before turning on.

Most likely it is not the Power Button, but rather the center push button.
That can be defined to some extent.

You need to use a lock screen to keep the phone from opening up when the screen is awakened. There is no way it can "butt dial" if the screen is locked.

Redefine the Power Button to instantly lock the screen when you press it to end using the phone. That stops "butt dials" instantly. goto Lock Screen in Settings
