Remote access

Yes but it's not like it can just happen auto-magically because you might inadvertently open up some dodgy web site. You need to physically give your phone to someone and then let them let them install some kind of remote access or spyware/stalkerware app onto it. And don't just haphazardly side-load some apk file for some miscellaneous app that you've read about in an article without thoroughly researching it first.
Be sure to always use a lockscreen or a fingerprint reader to secure your phone when you're out in public so no one can just pick it up if you've left on a table or whatever.

This also requires the OP to physically hand over their phone and allow them to manipulate it. What it all boils down to is just don't give your phone to people you don't know and trust.
