Remote control for music player.

I'm a motorcycle rider. I listen to iPod while riding and would prefer to switch to a phone to eliminate the need to carry an extra device. I have two options to control iPod while riding- a wired remote similar to this one Amazon.com: iLuv iEA15BLK iPod Remote with Third-party Headphones Adapter for VoiceOver (Black): Electronics or a wireless remote Amazon.com: Monster iEZClick Remote Control for iPod (Black): Electronics
Both of them have physical buttons I can operate with gloves on.
Is there anything similar which will work with an Android phone? Obviously, there is no Apple dock connector, but USB should provide a similar functionality. Wired remote for iPod works through an extra pin in the headphone jack, is there a similar pin in an Android phone? May be a Bluetooth based remote? I couldn't find any.

Why not get a bluetooth headset? Or a bluetooth adaptor? Both eliminate wires and have controls on them.

Because I don't want to charge another battery and good quality motorcycle bluetooth sets are over $200. Also, I could have a bluetooth or an RF remote permanently attached to the bike instead of carrying with me.
