Remove Local/PC Folder From Gallery

Drew7777

Lurker
Yesterday I used Kies to move some files to my VZW SG3; I've since disconnected and un-approved that computer within Kies.

However, when I'm connected to my home network via wifi, the phone's gallery shows an (empty) folder from my computer "DREW-PC". Why is this visible and how do I remove it?

Thanks,
-Drew

Separate gallery question - aside from each time changing my preferences to only show local media, is there a way to permanently hide Picasa folders?

You have to disable media sharing in Windows.

From Control Panel, go to:
--> Network and Sharing Settings
--> Advanced sharing settings
--> Scroll down to Media Streaming.

It might say Media Sharing is on, even though if you click the link, it asks you to turn it on first. Essentially, you have to turn it on to enable it, and then block everything from sharing and seeing your device. That turns it off by default. Yes, it's weird, but hey, it's Windows.

It worked for me!

Note: This only works if you have access to the other computers. If you're on a public network and other people have this setting on, you're kind of SOL. On your home private network, this should do the trick.

I haven't figured out how to hide the Picasa folders, but since mine were years old and I don't use them anymore, I just deleted them from Picasa altogether.
