Remove old gmail address in old ANDROID

I no longer use the gmail address i installed for sync when i bought my android 2.2.3. How do i remove the old gmail address and install my new gmail address?

You can't delete the sole Gmail address unless you are rooted or willing to do a factory reset. However, you can add a second account, and once activated, go back and delete the first one.

* If you are rooted, simply delete the file, /data/system/accounts.db and reboot.
