Remove Sync'd contacts

I just got a new samsung mesmerize from US Cellular (Galaxy S, 2.1). It initially was set up to sync contacts with my Gmail but I turned it off. When I go to "Contacts" i see only the contacts I want in my phone. However, when I go to "messaging" and hit "contacts", a whole bunch more contacts are showing up, and they appear to be my gmail contacts. How do I get rid of these?

You have to delete individually or batch delete. I had this same issue when I started using my phone. Unfortunately neither of the delete methods worked for me, so I had to reformat. Everytime I setup a gmail account from then on I've made sure to quickly disable contacts sync before any contacts actually end up syncing
