Remove text notification from lock screen after reading text?

Hi all. This is my first post in this forum. I am a brand new Galaxy/Android user, after being an iPhone user for almost 10 years. The main reason I made the switch was to be able to use the Gear VR, but I ended up loving using Android just as much, if not more! Forgive me for my super beginner questions, or if they have been answered already. I am learning more and more each day.

My question is this: I am using the Google Messages app for SMS. I have it set for a notification to show up on the lock screen when I receive at text. The annoying thing is, after I go in and read the text, the notification stays on the lock screen until I have to swipe it away. Is there any way that I get the notification to remove from the lock screen automatically after I read the message in the app? It gets annoying having to swipe away each time even after I have read texts.

Also, is there a setting that will cause the screen to light up whenever I get a text? I believe it did this at one point, but I have tinkered with the settings a bit and now can't get it to happen again (or maybe it is not possible at all, and I remembering wrong lol).

Thanks in advance for any tips on these things!

I was messing around with configurations in the light manager app and all of a sudden the screen started lighting up when I got texts. Not sure what specifically made it start doing it, but it appears to be working for now.
