Remove the shadows/color behind icon title?

On the desktop each of the shortcuts (or icons) has a dark grey rounded color bar behind the white text. I saw someone, somewhere had theirs changed to purple. Can I change the color of this, or have it removed?

try launcher pro or ADW launcher

it should help...!!

I would suggest a combination of LaucherPro and Desktop Visualizer. Launcher Pro will enable you to change the docks and icons on it. Desktop Visualizer will let you change all the other icons on the various desktop screens.
