Removed System App, Now cannot Update to 2.3.6 - Nexus S

I rooted my Nexus S, and uninstalled Google Earth (system app). I was notified of an update 2.3.6. WHen running the update, there is an error with "failed assert" GoogleEarth.apk.

I tried to manually copy a backup GoogleEarth.apk, but same error. I searched the web, and discovered that I also need a *.obex file, to go along with the *.apk.

Could somebody provide me with a matched pair? GoogleEarth.apk GoogleEarth.obex. I don't want to factory-restore my phone :(

Hmm, perhaps it is odex (with 'd'). In any case, my Google Earth works fine, too. But I cannot run the newest Gingerbread update because of an assert test failure on /system/app/GoogleEarth.apk ... Aside from factory-reset, any other solutions or suggestions? Does the exact filename matter here? (/system/app/GoogleEarth.apk)
