I have a Huawei Ascend II from Cricket. My super-annoying boot sound is not in /system/media/audio/ui/... but actually in /cust/cricket/us/media/audio/animationsounds/bootSound.ogg . I found it by poking around with the freeware "Root Browser Lite". The freeware "ES File Explorer" also works for finding it and playing it. But, darn it, now I'll have to root my phone cuz it's not letting me rename the file or anything.
