Help Removing file write permissions.

BretJ

Lurker
Trying to remove write protection from a .pdf form located in the /sdcard/documents directory. I have root and SU yet I am still unable to modify the permissions using Root Browser. Keep getting an unable to modify permissions error. I need to remove the permission in order to force adobe reader to do a file "Save as".
I seem to remember seeing something about removing the SD card and using a PC to modify individual fire permissions on the SD card itself but need to get an SD reader in order to do so. Is that a legitimate option?

Using Android 4.2.2

Any thoughts/suggestions??

Regards,

Bret

WHy don't you just email and send the document to your PC? In Windows there are a number of ways to remove write protection.

Unfortunately, the Androids are not networkable because of security requirements. I had set the file permissions as read only on a PC before loading it on the tablet, however the file appears to keep inheriting rw permissions once on the tablet.
Thanks for the suggestion though.

As a side note, just tried to chmod/chown the file as well....no success.

OK, as you mentioned in your first post, an SD card reader is what you will need. Cheap and painless:)

Best of luck
