Renewing Verizon contract after July 7th

Okay...I went over the new Verizon tiered data plan a few times

Verizon's 'DataGate' plans leaked in excruciating detail -- Engadget

However, the one question that came to mind was this...

"If I'm currently on an unlimited data plan and I renew AFTER July 7th, will I still have unlimited data."

I called Verizon, so did a co-worker afterwards, and we both got the same response.

"If you currently have a "smartphone" (They didn't say "unlimited data plan", but then again, you do need one if you want to use their network to surf the web on the phone) and you renew your contract after July 7th, you keep your unlimited data."

Obviously, I'm still going to call Verizon occassionaly as we approach that day and will even go into a Verizon store (not a reseller) to make sure that statement is accurate.

If it is....

I'll be waiting for the Samsung Galaxy S2 or the iPhone 5 if the screen is bigger (which is likely not the case).

My daughter who currently has a feature phone, wants an Iphone when she is up for renewal in August. If I activate one of my android phones on her line now (with a data plan, obviously) do you think that she will be ok for unlimited data on a new Iphone in August?

Yes, as long as you activate the data plan before 7/7/2011. I'm doing the same for my daughter. I've been searching craigslist for a cheap Verizon "smartphone" to activate for her so she can have unlimited data after her next upgrade in May 2012 (she also wants an iPhone).

hey i have question. i have a EN-V touch right now and my upgrade isnt for a couple of months. I got my dad to upgrade me to unlimited data tho (because of the july 7th). now i went on my verizon account and it says unlimited data, so when i do upgrade to a smart phone in the future will i be able to keep unlimited data?

-is data the same regardless of the type of phone?

I had the En-V touch. It's a feature phone, so the unlimited data plan with that ins't the same. Since it's not a smartphone I don't think what's being discussed in this topic applies to it.
