Replace Stolen Phone Strategy

Lurker
Ok, my Droid Inc was stolen after only 6 weeks with no insurance.

The good news is I paid for the phone with American Express who refunded the full price paid.:)

The bad news is I need a new phone.

Since I want a new phone will this work...

If I pay the early termination fee, can I buy a new phone with a new contract or will Verizon try to prevent me?

Since Newegg has the DINC for 1 cent with a new contract ($489 without), I will be out only $90 which seems OK given the alternatives.

Thanks,

TBGB

If you buy out your contract with an ETF Verizon will put a hold on your line for 6 months. They do this to keep people from paying ETF's to get discounted pricing.

I'm not sure if you could add a new line of service.

Thanks for the reply. I don't mind having to switch phone numbers but I did not know about the hold. I guess I will have to call VZ and see if I can get a new number/contract now OR switch carriers.

Addendum:

Octoberdana - I cannot thank you enough. I called to confirm if I would have any problems activating a new line and the rep. offered to give me the same deal I had: $250 - $100 rebate so I am actually back to even.
