Replacement Call Screen?

This might sound stupid, but do the Samsung answer and in-call screens drive anyone else nuts? For a device with such a big screen (S8+ here), having the contact photo appear as a tiny thumbnail in the middle of the screen seems like I'm going back to the early days of Android, especially since my previous Motorola phone showed the contact photo over like half of the screen.

I've never used a replacement dialer app before- can they override these screens as well, or do they only replace the dialer and contacts apps? I've been an Android user since the early days, but this is the first phone I've had that didn't run either vanilla Android or something very close to, so I've always just used the stock dialer app and never really explored the alternatives. If they do control those screens, does anyone have any recommendations for a good (hopefully free) one? If not, is there a good way to replace these screens using another app? Or even just to get the default Google dialer/contacts/screens to work on an S8?

It's Hit or miss as the screen for the dialer might be baked in to the OS.
Try some from the play store and see what happens.
On my zte, I can install any dialer I want, but the actual calling screen is the stock ZTE for me, which sucks

I just switched from Windows Phone to an S8 last week (go ahead and laugh). I absolutely loved my WP. I have spent an infuriating week with Android and would give anything to go back to WP, but it's a dead OS. I have been trying to switch this dialer screen for days. It doesn't seem possible. Even if you use a dialer and contact app, you still get sent to this caller screen. And if you go to edit a contact you are sent to the stock Samsung contact editor no matter what is installed or set to default. IF anyone figures out how to replace this ugly caller screen with something better please pass on the wisdom. I can't believe what a mess this OS is.

The caller screen is built into the OS, and that is made by the manufacturer, not Android. The only way to permanently change it is to root the device.
