Replacement dialer with keyboard contact search

I would like a dialer that defaults to having the virtual keyboard open and lets you punch in a contacts name, rather than defaulting to a T9 dialer.

Have you checked out TAkEphONE? It just might be what you're looking for. I used it on my old Palm Treo and *LOVED* it. It had lotsa options, and you could customize more stuff than you knew what to do with. That being said, I haven't felt the need to use it with my Droid (its more functional than Palm...obviously), so I don't know if it's a direct port or not.
