Replacing Commando...not sure if it worth it.

It's time to upgrade the Commando..it's rooted, and still has Android 2.1 LOL. The Brigadier looks good on paper, but the reviews left me second guessing. Maybe someone here can easy my worries...

First and fore most, the glass. With all the YouTube "torture test", there sure are A LOT of customer complaints about shattered screens (from minimal drops). My Commando has been BEATEN up, and not a scratch on the Gorilla Glass. Seems that Verizon and the manufacturer don't warranty this. I addition to glass breakage, it seem no one can keep the port covers from breaking off. My commando port covers are still on after six or so years? What are these folks doing wrong? Is this phone really built as the upgrade for the Casio line? They sound awfully fragile.

Secondly the update to Lollipop. Seems as if the update killed battery life (which was a big selling point for me) and locked up a bunch of peoples phones. No bueno.

I would like to root this phone to rid it the bloatware if I should happen to be convinced it's ok to buy. Does the rooting method in the "root" tab really work as easy a it sounds? How stable has your rooted phone been?....and is the glass cracked o_O

Given the issues above, It's gonna be hard to give up my old, slow, outdated (but SUPER tough and realiable Commando.

Thanks in advance.

My 14 year old had the Brigadier and hated it. After a year of use, I let him use my upgrade for a S7. Anyway, the USB port cover did in fact break off but I might add that he's rough with his phones.

I do have and still use the Commando GzOne and love it. But your right - it is outdated and the battery life did get worse. But keep in mind the Brigadier has been out almost 2 years now and is not far behind the GzOne.

Just did a quick google on found this post about Kyocera sending a customer a cover for free https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/897791.

EBay also had some listings for port covers but awfully expensive for a piece of rubberized plastic @ $25.00.

I have done some research for replacing my GzOne and came across the CAT s50c http://www.catphones.com/en-us/phones/s50c-smartphone.

There are not many reviews on the CAT - 1/2 said great and 1/2 said terrible. But the GzOne had similar reviews and I loved it.

Problem seems to be that manufacturers want to keep retail cost down so you really only have a choice between a top of the line in mechanics or top of the line in durability - not both.
