Replacing the default dialer app.

Ok, I have asked this on another forum, but it seems that I haven't got an answer yet. I have an old HTC Cha Cha that I like very much. I've rooted it, because I was trying to solve the "dialer bug". This means that when I check to see what applications are currently consuming my battery, the dialer shows up there with over 90%. This is not normal.

I've been surfing the web for about a day or two. I've tried several fixes but nothing did the job for me.

What I want now is to try to completely uninstall the dialer app, and replace it with another application. But I don't know how to do it. I've tried to remove it using Titanium Backup, but this created some errors and I had to flash the ROM again. Currently I am using a "modified stock ROM", in the sense that it is exactly as the original one, but it has some bloatware app uninstalled. Nothing fancy.

Guys, you're my last hope. I'm really counting on you! Could somebody help me replace the dialer app, please?

I will provide all the necessary details about my ROM, or anything that could be needed, and that could help you guys to help me!

I have no knowledge about your phone but it helps if we know the Android version

In general though I've never needed to actually remove the default dialler, I simply install the replacement I want to use and (if necessary) disable the built in app - you can "freeze" it with TB if the Android version you use has no built in support to disable it.

But in any case make sure you install the new dialler before removing/disabling the old one or you're asking for trouble.

Thank you for your answer! So, that suffices, isn't it? Don't laugh, but I have 2.3.5. Would you please tell me what app do I need to freeze? Do I also need to freeze the "dialer storage"? When I run TB I see "dialer" and "dialer storage"

The app to freeze is "dialler". Leave "dialler storage" alone - all diallers usually share the same storage management.

Make sure the new dialler is fully operational before freezing the old one.

PS: you shouldn't really need to freeze the old one at all; freeze it only if necessary to fix a problem otherwise leave it alone.

Ok! So, I've installed RocketDialer. After I froze the default "dialer", I made a phone call. The issue persists: when I check my battery usage, the dialer is there, consuming 96%...I'm desperate

hmm, this is real strange indeed.

I would try freezing the application then rebooting the device...then making a call.
