Replica Island: Fun retro side-scrolling action
Replica Island was released March 20, 2010 but it plays like it was released back in the mid-80s or early 90s, but in a good way. It has elements of the Super Mario series as well as the Mega Man series and adds new twists of its own. Anyone who has ever played a side-scrolling game will feel right at home in Replica Island.
In the game, you play as the Android mascot, which is pretty fitting. As the game starts, you have no memory of what you have done to this point in the story. As you progress, you play through the levels, some are your memories of the past and some are of the present. This sounds kind of confusing at first. Not only is it not confusing, but it is a novel way for the story to unfold. Your memories are unlocked in a non-linear way so the main plot does not become clear until the end.
The game play is smooth and feels polished. The controls are intuitive and easy to learn. Both of these aspects make it straightforward to get into the main fun of the game, and that is the puzzles in each level. The levels present a good mix of jumping/flying puzzles and problem solving puzzles. With a full 40 levels, Replica Island brings quite a lot of game play in its approximately 5MB download. It's a little bigger than some apps, but is small enough to not concern G1 owners too much.
Good:
* Lots of fun packed into 5MB.
* Smooth game play
* Intuitive controls
* It's all free!
Bad:
* Some levels are MUCH harder than others
