Requesting feedback - Must be stock/non-root, MicroSD installed, KitKat

Medion

Android Expert
I'm putting together one of my "guide" threads for the Android community, but I need some preliminary feedback from you guys before I post it. Please bear with me here, and please only post the requested feedback if you meet the following guidelines;

  • Your phone has a MicroSD expansion slot and a MicroSD card is inserted
  • You are on your stock ROM, and unrooted. PLEASE - NO ROOT/CUSTOM ROM USERS - THIS WILL CONTAMINATE THE SURVEY
  • You have Android KitKat 4.4, 4.4.1, 4.4.2, or 4.4.3. - THIS WILL NOT APPLY TO OLDER ANDROID REVISIONS

Here is what I want you to do.
  1. Install Quickoffice (if already installed, update to latest version).
  2. Open Quickoffice.
  3. Select "Open File."
  4. In the top right, touch the "Settings" icon. Phones with hardware buttons may have to touch the physical/capacitive settings button. Either will do.
  5. Make sure "Display advanced devices" is checked. Go back.
  6. Touch the top-left corner of the screen or swipe from left to right to open the "hamburger" menu (the slide out navigation bar on the left side of the screen).
  7. Take a screenshot.
  8. BEFORE UPLOADING - edit out any account information or identifying information
  9. Upload the screenshot to a post with the below information

  • Phone model number (and carrier, if branded/exclusive model)
  • Android version
  • Amount of internal storage
  • Size of MicroSD
  • Please confirm that your phone is stock and unrooted.

Also, I'm looking for a large variety of phones here, but don't hold out if someone else has already posted for your phone. I'll follow up this post with 2 more posts; 1) sample post using my device, and 2) purpose of survey.

  • Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition (GT-i9505G) - no carrier lock
  • Android 4.4.2
  • 16GB internal storage
  • 64GB MicroSD
  • My phone is not rooted and I am on the stock ROM.

The purpose of this post is to gather information as a precursor to an upcoming guide that I am writing how to get around Google's changes to MicroSD permissions as of KitKat. There are a plethora of ways to use expandable storage with KitKat, and one of those ways involves the new Storage Access Framework (SAF). This survey is going to be used for the SAF portion of my guide.

Please, no discussion on Google's reasoning/methodology behind this change. This thread is a survey only for the benefit of the larger Android community.

Moto XT907 (RAZR M) (Verizon)

Thank you. That's the first one I've seen with multiple internal storage banks.

Keep 'em coming :)

Thank you. That's the first one I've seen with multiple internal storage banks.

You are the expert here, but I think the 3 GB free relates to internal (device) storage and the 4 GB free relates to the MicroSD. Both because I don't have 7 GB free on the device, and the 4 GB is exactly what is free on the MicroSD.

Or maybe that's what you mean and I am misinterpreting your post.

You're correct. I misinterpreted which storage bank was which (and just assumed that MicroSD wasn't showing). Thanks for clarifying.

Also, my above screenshot for the S4 GPE applies to 4.4.3 as well (no change). And here's the toy I got my kid.

  • Moto Gn (XT-1028) - Verizon
  • Android 4.4.2
  • 8GB internal storage
  • No MicroSD expansion
  • My phone is not rooted and I am on the stock ROM.
