Help Required - screen lock password recovery

I have a redminote 4g phone with all the updates. I don'trecall if the most recent update is installed or not. But second last update isprobably installed.

I have forgotten my screen lock password option. It was anumeric PIN My phone is not rooted and I have also not enabled USB debugging. Iwant to unlock my phone without losing my data. What should I do?

I have an MI account bound to my phone.

When I typed in wrong numbers five times I could not findforgot password option. If had got that option I could have easily entered thecredentials of my xiaomi account.

I'm not sure, but I think you have to try 5 times more than once to have the forgot password option appear..I'm also not sure if it works with MI accounts rather than google accounts?
 
By default I'd expect it to work with the Google account, unless Xiaomi have modified the software.

There are some models by some manufacturers where entering the wrong password too often triggers a factory reset rather than a Google password prompt. Hopefully yours isn't one of them.

I think you are right, in fact I just looked and it is an option....
I think it would be unwise to leave it unchecked though...

I used to leave it open until I installed a couple of bank apps and Google Wallet, and Wal-mart Wallet...
now it is locked tight with pincode.
