Restoring the details of SMS back

I am using android messaging app on my LYF water mobile. But when I down loaded, 'message' app from google play and made it default SMS App, it removed all details from prev. App. ie only text remained, date of receipt for all messages is the date when I made changes. Can any body help me in restoring 'messaging' App back.

Funny, since I've swapped default message app many times with no effect other than the former default app doesn't always see new messages - certainly not times being messed up.

What happens if you change default app again? Uninstall the new one?

Worst case try clearing data for the old app (and maybe then make it default again). That should force it to re-read them. The SMS themselves are not stored in the message app - if they were other apps would not be able to access them at all - so if there is a problem with a message app this is a viable solution. If you are worried then back the messages up first - there are many message backup apps available.

(To be absolutely clear, that's clearing data from the phone's Settings > Apps, not deleting messages from within the app - that will delete the messages).

Yes the one which came original. As sometimes, it used to miss a msg or two. I down loaded ' Message' App from Google play to counter check a particular msg supposed to be critical for me. When I selected google app as default, it showed missed msg also, but it deleted all details from original messaging app. Now I see only a list of senders, all on 02.07.19 not even in chronological order. Actually format of google app is not eye catching, hence I wish to continue to use my old app.
