Retention Deals?

If you ATT has given you retention deal post it here and tell me about your experience.

This is my situation: I've been on ATT ever since I first had phone (7years). And my family has been with them even longer. I have an iPhone 3GS and my contract is up next month. I recently called ATT and told them to have my number ported over. The lady asked if someone was unsatisfied with the service and I said I just want my number ported. She said that she couldn't do it until my contract was over I said ok and ended the conversation. I bought the Evo 3D on Sprint because I want a 3D phone. It met my expectations of how awesome it should be (I have high expectations), but Sprint didn't. If I had 4G in one state and only had 1 bar I could get 5mbps and with full bars get 9mbps. In my home state, with full bars I get MAX 3 Mbps. So I'm considering staying with ATT, but I want a retention deal because I have had problems with them before such as:

People not getting my text message (I'm standing next to them and they are showing me their phone and they don't get it)

Dropped Calls

And even though it's not a problem, their 4G still isn't in my city.

For my retention deal I want a smartphone ($199 or less) for free and I'll agree to a two year contract. Do you think they'll give it to me?

My retention deals were a few htc inspires for $75 each (one for $30 when i got them to price match Radioshack) . I called and said I was going to go to verizon cause i couldn't stand my captivate any more and wasn't willing to wait until the end of the year for my upgrade. I had 5 lines (1 was an iphone) I was able to upgrade all lines except for the iphone line. They are not allowed to offer any deal on a line with an iphone on it unless the contract period is up. I was told this several times, so for that line it would be eligible for upgrade through retentions june 2012. I was ok with this cause one of my lines belongs to my grandma and she ain't getting a new phone so i used her retention upgrade to get an inspire to use on my iPhone line.
Also I was offered free family texting for 6 months ($30/month credit for 6 months) and a-list, not sure if they charge for this but it was put on my account. So with this I add 10 landlines numbers to call for free (doesnt come out of my plan minutes) and the unltd calling to any mobile I was able to drop my plan to the 700min plan. And a bonus 1000 roll over minutes.

I'm not sure they will give you a free smartphone (well maybe a captivate?) but they will give you a discount off what the phone costs online or in the store. Plus waive the $18 upgrade fee.

That was interesting. Well they gave you a $180 credit for family texting. If ATT gives the same offers to most customers, then the value they offer would definitely be over $200. I have a family plan with 3 people. We like our plan just the way it is. So maybe ATT would give me what I want since it would cost the same (or less).

I noticed you just wanted to switch b/c you were tired of waiting for an upgrade. And ATT gave the whole family upgrades. Plus free texting for 6 months. Their retention offer focused on what you wanted and something to keep the family happy.

Yep, it is their job to keep you as happy as possible and stay. I had one rep try to scare me with the etf fees for each line. But my super awesome math skills shut that down. I just told him with all the phones I have ill sell them on ebay to pay the etf's with only a little out of pocket so that versus what I pay you per month for a 2 yr contract on 5 lines which do you think would cost me less and cost you more? So then once he moved past the scary etf strategy he asked me why I wanted to cancel and I explained that my captivate was a PITA he offered an exchange for the captivate but i told him to me that was unacceptable as i wasn't willing to risk getting one with the same or even different problems. And the fact that gps had never worked. That's when he went through the list of smartphones and prices for each.

Btw with the ordering of the 2nd and 3rd inspires their system was having problems and couldn't place the orders so they called a corporate store and had them price match (must put in your account notes the price plus waive upgrade fee) and i was able to walk into the store and get those 2 phones there.
