I have a Droid Turbo and recently deleted some text messages I need back. I do not have them backed up anywhere. I've looked for programs, and even purchased one, to try to get them back off the SMS. The problem I'm running into is that all the programs I find to restore text messages require your phone to be rooted. Are there any programs out there to restore deleted text messages that do not require your phone to be rooted? Thanks for the help..

Not from what I have read.

Worst case, IF they are extremely important, you can call your Carrier Support customer service and they can restore them out of their archives.

What??

Check out "SMS Backup +"

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync

Check out "SMS Backup & Restore"

Check out "Helium - App Sync and Backup"

You don't need root to restore texts. You temporarily make the restore app your default sms app and the system is happy to receive texts from the backup as if they came from someone normally.

That's how SMS Backup + works.

I have a Droid Turbo and recently deleted some text I really need back. They are not backed up anywhere. I've tried looking for a program that will get them back off my SMS, but it seems like every program needs my phone to be rooted, and I don't want to root my phone. Is there a program that will do what I want without rooting my phone? I am not looking for a program to backup and restore messages in the future. I need a program that will get the messages off the SMS card without them already being backed up anywhere. Please help.

Problem is the OP has deleted them before installing any backup app.

Frankly I'm not sure that even with root it would be possible (undoing a modification to a database rather than recovering a deleted file, it's not obvious to me).

For the future SMS Backup+ can automatically back up your messages in real time, and others can run scheduled backups. If messages can be important, best to have something like this installed and running.

Welcome to the forum :). I've merged your post back into this thread as it's part of the same discussion.

I'm afraid I don't have anything to add to my post above, except to say that there is no such thing as a "SMS card". SMS messages are stored in a database (not as a set of separate files) in an area of the phone's storage that is inaccessible to you without root. It's one thing for a backup app to restore backed-up messages by writing to that as Early described, but I don't know of anything which can do what you want.

Yes, this is exactly how I interpreted the OP's 1st post, he deleted all of the sms messages but did not have any kind of backup system in place. When this happens, the carrier is his only last resort... they must archive all SMS stuff by law, but the customer getting access to that is hard to do.

To me, it sounds like this is a "Live and Learn the hard way" situation.
what is gone is gone.
Now install a backup system and use it.
