Apps Retrieving hardware location based data

Hi,

I am new to android. I have just got started with downloading Eclipse, etc. What I want to do is be able to get data from the phone like the mac address of the phone, accelerometer and other location based information.
Can you please give me pointers as to how to start this work?

I dont know where to get started.
Please help.
