(I received this case for review)
This book-style Samsung Galaxy S6 case contains pockets for bank cards, so it doubles as a wallet and keeps essentials together in one pocket. It also offers the following features:
I'm also a fan of the details on this case. The stitching provides a stylish touch and makes the case more noticeable. There's also a Melkco logo embossed on the inside of the book cover, which adds some character.
The stitching seems tight, so I don't expect it to come undone. The leather appears to be durable too, but only time will tell. Real leather is more durable than fake, anyway, so I expect this case to last as long as I have my S6. The case doesn't seem to collect dust, so I don't anticipate cleaning it often. The only inconvenience real leather presents is the need to use leather-cleaning and oiling products instead of rubbing alcohol. I actually kind of enjoy cleaning and oiling leather, though, so I consider this a bonus.
So the Melkco Herman case looks good, but is there any brawn behind its beauty? There seems to be. Even though the leather is low-profile, it should be enough to pad a fall from a desk. I'd be a bit nervous, though, about my S6 falling on its face because the front cover doesn't secure in the closed position. The tradeoff here is that the front cover opens easily when I want to use my phone.
The phone holders inside the case also don't rise much above screen level, so they don't really act as bumpers if the S6 falls face-first. The low-profile holders, though, keep the case nice and slim. They also fit securely around my S6, so I feel confident that my phone won't suddenly fall out of the case.
What I really dig about this case is the card slots. You have three of them on the face of the inner cover. I wouldn't try to put two plastic cards into one slot, but one slot can hold a couple thin paper cards, like a subway ticket and a coffee shop stamp card. The face of the inner cover is actually a pocket that also fits cash, so I can ditch my wallet and sit a lot more comfortably.
There's only one cutout on the case, which is for the S6 camera on the back. The holders along the perimeter of the phone keep all of the buttons exposed, so the Herman doesn't present any serious access issues. The only minor problem is that the SIM card slot remains blocked, but this doesn't concern me because I never swap out the card. In any case, I consider it a small price to pay for the extra security that a fuller holder provides.
Overall, I'm impressed with this book-style case. The cowhide leather offers a perfect balance between style and toughness. The inner card slots and pocket have let me get rid of my wallet, which I had just accepted as a necessary evil for many years. If you're looking for an S6 case that combines style, protection, and functionality, I definitely recommend the Melkco Herman.
