Review: Sony MW600 BT

I just got the Sony MW600 bluetooth headphones from Amazon HERE. I'm using these with my new Galaxy Nexus. I had been looking for quite a long time for some bluetooth stereo headphones but had not come across a pair that I liked overall. Since my new phone was lacking an FM radio (which I enjoyed on my Droid Incredible), this feature was added to the requirements. This pair was one of a few that had an FM radio, and since it also had the ability to use any headphones/headsets I jumped on them with some AMEX points.

It's really small and discrete. All controls and buttons have good feedback, and the OLED display is very clear. The touch-sensitive volume slider is VERY sensitive. I've find myself several times already accidently lowering/raising the volume inadvertently.

The FM radio works really well. With my old phones radio, I wasn't able to pick up any stations because of the distance (which really sucked because I'm only 50 miles away). This device's radio has no problems picking up the stations. Now some may say to just use a streaming app; and I do use Tune In Radio app which works great. It picks up all of the local stations that permit online streaming. What I couldn't get though via Tune In were any live Razorback events like football and basketball games. The university doesn't permit online streaming of live events because they have full rights to streaming events via their paid website. So this is probably the biggest reason why I wanted an FM radio.

The headphones are average and comparable to other earbuds in the $10-20 range. The cord is short by design, which is both good and bad. The left side is only a few inches long. So many may find they don't like these earbuds. The good thing is that you can use any headphones with a 3.5mm connector. So I can use any of my buds laying around, the future Klipsch S4's I plan to buy, and my Sony DJ V600 headphones.

I've tested the functionality with the following apps:

Stock Google Music player (on Galaxy Nexus):
Pause/Play works
Next Track Forward & Track Rewind works
Track Search/Within Track Forward & Rewind DOES NOT work

Power Amp:
Pause/Play works
Next Track Forward & Track Rewind works
Track Search/Within Track Forward & Rewind works
(This app works the best overall with the WM600; which will also play the audio of videos and the controls work, but the app doesn't have a video codec built-in)

Player Pro:
Pause/Play DOES NOT work
Next Track Forward & Track Rewind works
Track Search/Within Track Forward & Rewind DOES NOT work
Pressing Play while no track is currently playing would fire up Power Amp and play the last song.

YouTube:
None of the controls work
Pressing Play would fire up Power Amp and start playing the last song within that app.

Stock Video player (on Galaxy Nexus):
None of the controls work
Pressing Play would fire up Power Amp and start playing the last song within that app.

Zumocast/Motocast:
MUSIC
Pause/Play DOES NOT works
Next Track Forward & Track Rewind works
Track Search/Within Track Forward & Rewind DOES NOT works

VIDEOS
Pause/Play works
Next Video Forward & Video Rewind works
Track Search/Within Video Forward & Rewind DOES NOT works

I'll update after a week of use.

I also have an MW600, very pleased with it, but I am suffering some nagging problems.

The MW600 allows you to pair multiple devices, on occasions I have it paired to the laptop, desktop, and phone. In this state the MW600 become a bit temperamental when connecting to the phone, it will link up as headphones, or as a headset, but, sometimes, stubbornly refuses to have both available. Have you tried multiple pairing, err, ooo err, and have you noticed the same problem?

No I haven't. I'll test it with my old phone and see what results I get when both phones are connected to it.

I'm not convinced you will get the MW600 to accept two phone profiles, but it will be interesting to see ...

Update - In fact you can register two phones.

Recently I bought viewsonic Tablet running with Android 4.0.3, my bluetooth Sony Ericsson MW600 is not functioning as it should. I can listen to music from the phone and I can hear when someone calls me but when I press the answer button I can't hear the caller and they can't hear me. It is the same when I call someone. In other words it doesn't work to make calls with the bluetooth, normal headsets work. I have checked that it there is nothing wrong with the MW600 by connecting it to my old HTC Hero. My conclusion it thus that somehow something in the newest Android removed the ability to have conversations via bluetooth Sony Ericsson MW600.

How can i fix this issue? Please help!

i have this but I don't use it that much... the buttons are real easy to hit accidentally. So when you are in the gym, I constantly switches songs. Anyway, its in my closet.

Sound is good (I'm no audiophile though)
Battery good
compact design (clip can snap off)
sony ericson logo (fell off) but who cares
