Reviewing phone-based products

I recently reviewed a Seidio Innocase Rugged for HTC Inspire (you can read it over in the Inspire forum) which I received from Seidio for free, and then I was contacted by another company requesting me to review their case. I've never really reviewed products like this before so I'm not really sure what the protocol is. Should I ask Seidio if this would be okay? Or does it not really matter? Or what?

Having done also done a few Seidio reviews, if someone else asked me to review a product I wouldn't decline it (unless I just didn't feel like it).

But should I clear it with Seidio first? They said they'd be interested in doing future reviews with me again so I'd rather not damage that relationship.

Did they pay you? Did you sign a non-compete agreement? A contract? I don't feel like they have any reason to stop you from reviewing other products. The more proficient you are, the more it benefits their company, with honest, precise, well versed reviews.... But what do I know.

Engadget reviews everything they can get their hands on, why would you be held to a different standard?

You know exactly, 330D. You said it: Honest, precise, well versed reviews. To do otherwise, you hurt the company as well as the consumer.

I wonder about paid reviews. For some people, the more reviews they do, the better they are paid. And that means if they want to continue to be paid, all reviews must sparkle and glow.

yeah I guess, but I mean if I'm reviewing competing products, I don't want to compare the two...I guess as long as I don't compare them I'd be fine. :

But if I say X company's case is better than Y company's case, then will Y company ever want me to review their cases again?

Who cares? you got the better case.... lol. They should strive to make a better case and give it to you to review. This is really simple, dude. Don't overthink it. ;)

You could just list the pros and cons of each when you compare them. Personally, i prefer details in reviews so i can decide for myself.

Of course, if product X sucks compared to product Y... don't be afraid to say it. Then company X can improve their product for the future.
