hey does anyone know how to make a ringtone for a contact or a notification. i put my ringtones on my microsd card and when i check my music they are there and let me put them as a ringtone for a call. but im not sure about the contacts and notifications! thanks  i know im a ****.

For a contact, go to contacts and choose the contact you want. Then click the menu button and choose edit and click on ringtone. Make sure you have chosen use as phone ringtone in music first. The sms I haven't been able to figure out yet.

u click on the contact then hit menu and choose edit contact from there it should say on the bottom other information and says ringtone then u can select any ringtone and there u go

it doesn't look like you're able to use anything but default for the alerts, just ringtones.

also, phonezoo is a good site to crop ringtones. you just have to save them to your pc and usb it over...

Also, for those who are NOT using any type of add-on app for ringtones:

Let's say you got some MP3s on your mem card you want as ringtones.

Open music player and select the track. Then either by long-touch or menu button (I can't remember off the top of my head), you'll have an option for 'Set As Ringtone'.

Once you set an MP3 as a ringtone, it will be available for all other alert functions as well (SMS, MMS, Emails, etc).

Cumbersome... but hopefully some better Apps come out for this.

There sure is. I didn't like the fact that you couldn't set your mp3's and sms ringtones, or the way you had to set a mp3 as your default ringtone before it would appear in the ringtone list so you could assign it to contacts and the such; the very next day an app was in the catalog called rings extended that remedied all of those issues.

RingDroid is awesome for ringtones... they had it on the Market prior to release when I was playing with a review unit but I haven't seen it online since then.

It'll be up soon I'm sure. You can take an MP3 on your phone and easily select any portion of the song to use as your ringtone. Pretty cool.

Ringdroid is back on the market! I just added it and its SWEET.

Makes me want to start a thread of funny/awesome ringtones made from various songs and/or mp3s.

I still can't get a ringtone to work for SMS. I opened the file in the music player, and selected "make a ringtone", but it won't show up in the list of choices for Handcent.... Any advice?

I got it fixed. All I did was hook up my Eris to my Mac, opened up the SD card, open media, then audio, then Notifications. Now there was only one ringtone in there. So then I backed out and went into the music folder and copied all my ringtones then back to the Notification folder mentioned above and pasted them in there. Now just eject the drive unmount the card on the phone and wholla I now have all my notifications available when I open the Handcent messaging app and set the new tone for SMS. Any questions let me know.

OK. Wierd. I made a folder called Notifications and just put it on the SD card. I dragged a ringtone over into it, and now I can use it as my SMS notification. I swear that when I tried it earlier it didn't work, but now it does. Cool.
