Help ringtones for phone

sorry to be thick im so used to my iphone-how do u make ringtones for the galaxy is it the same as for the iphone make an aac file?

if not can i just use the ones i already have on my mac and drag them to my phone?

If you have the audio file on your phone it's easy.
1. Download app called ringdroid from the market.
2. Open the app and find the audio file you want.
3. Cut and trim the audiofile as you wish.
4. Save it.
5. Set as ringtone.

It's all in the app, prerty straight forward mate.

i was just wondering though if i dont have the file do i just drag a normal song to the phone and use that app?

or can i still make my own ringtones on itunes and drag it to the phone

Well the SGS doesn't sync with iTunes so probably no for.creating ringtones on there. Whrn you plug in the SGS into your computer it'll show up like an external hdd like the old iPod classic does and then you can just drag and drop it using your file explorer.
1. Go to settings > about phone > usb settings > mass storage
2. Plug in your sgs to.your computer.
3. Open up the pull down notification tray and select usb connected then in the pop up select mount.
4. Copy audio files from your computer to your phone as you would to an external hard drive.

thanks i just tried my ringtone on the phone doesnt work

i read somewhere u have to make another folder for ringtones is that right?

What file type is your ringtone? Does it show up on the stock samsung music player and / or ringdroid?
Yes you can do it using folder names but I'm noy entirely sure how as ringdroid has always worked without hitch for me.

There is no reason to use ringdroid. Just put your favorite sound or music files (all kinds of format works... mp3, wav, midi, etc.) It's as simple as that. I found that ringdroid often degraded the SQ of soundfiles I tried to use. No need, just put your sound file in media/audio/ringtones directory. Couldn't be easier.

Yeah, I agree to an extent that there is no need to use ringdroid to put ringtones.om your phone, what I like is that it can snip parts of an audio file so you don't have to use the whole file as a ringtone, doubly helpful for notifications as I don't like long ones. :-D

Open up your favourite audio editing program, on any of your PC/Mac/Linux machine.
Select the song/audio file that you want to use as a ringtone.
Edit, cut, stitch, enhance, fade-in/fade-out whatever is your heart desire.
Save it as a 16bit PCM wav file.
Copy it onto your external SD card. Open it with your phone Music Player, then from the Option Menu (within the Music Player) select ...Set as... than set it as a ringtone. Piece of cake.
NB. you can organise your ringtones into folders BEFORE set them as ringtones, but if you re-arranging your files/directories on your external SD card and/or remove those files, the ringtones are gone too.
