Ringtones not usuable after i unplug from the pc

I download ringtones to my phone and they are fine until I plug the phone into the computer...for some reason after its unplugged the ringtones aren't mp3s anymore and my phone wont let me use them for notifications. Im tired of having to delete them and download them everytime I plug it into the computer....any help is greatly appreciated
 
This is quite an odd one. What phone do you have Marybeth and what application are you using to download your ringtones?
