RIP Device Payment Plan

Very unfortunate. For those keeping unlimited data I'd recommend you start putting some money away every month so you'll have some saved up to upgrade.

I hope Motorola will continue to offer financing. Now if they would just release the Moto X+1 (X2).

It's sad to see it go, but not surprising in the slightest. They're trying to close every loophole possible because they want everyone off of those plans. Eventually there will be no avoiding it because once you're off contract, there's nothing stopping them from removing it.

Wish I had known what it was called last weekend. It's time for a new phone (currently have a launch S3) and talked to a CSR on VZW's website asking about this plan, though not knowing the name. Everytime I would ask if it was possible, they just tell me that what EDGE was, but at least told me EDGE would transfer me to a share everything plan. I suspect they knew it was ending and would told to steer people away from it. Damn, looks like I'm losing unlimited since I don't have the money to pay full price for phones for me and the wife.

If you need a new phone but not necessarily the latest and greatest then Swappa.com is a good place to get one. They usually have a good selection of reasonably priced phones.

I would also suggest looking at craigslist in your area. I have seen some good deals there.

On a side note, the day Verizon takes away my unlimited data is the day I port out.

Do you think Verizon will ever get rid of the unlimited plans or just keep making it harder and harder to keep. In the back of my mind, I have this fear that one day they will just be like.. OK unlimited is done.. over.

On that day, I will leave Verizon for ever.

Thought about craigslist, but as far as I'm concerned, craigslist is just a scam site or a way to set you up... at least in my area.

And yes, I think at some point, VZW is just going to wake up one morning, and decide unlimited data no longer exists. But I think we all know all companies will eventually go away from unlimited.

Insurance fraud is rampant, so I strongly recommend against buying used phones unless buying from someone you know and trust. I've seen way too many complaints/threads on this site of phones getting their IMEI/ESN blocked due to being reported stolen by the seller, or for lack of payment on the account the phone originally on.

I think they'll do it eventually, but probably once everyone who has unlimited data is off-contract. However due to the online glitch they had last fall, it will likely be just over another year before that happens. If they do it while people are on contract, then those users will have the right to break the contract and leave if they want which is bad for Verizon because then they won't have the full subsidy repayment and thus take a financial loss on that phone purchase.

Meet the Craigslist seller at the phone store and have them verify it's not stolen. Then have the phone transferred into your name while the seller is still there. After that they can't report it stolen.

Verizon ever ditches unlimited, they better give me, oh, a 10-12 gig a month plan. I mean, I've been offered 6-8 right now, but since one of my family members will not switch to a smartphone, I just plan on using their upgrade in October next year, to get maybe a Note 4, cause I figure by then there'll have been a decent price reduction.
