Is there an app that lets me set a route for a road trip and then itll give me voice commands on how to follow that route while im driving? Thanks
 
Just use Google voice and say "directions to" and give it an address. Bingo! It will tell you turn by turn
 
Not exactly. Like if i want to follow a certain route, take detours and what not witgout having to put in a new destination everytime
 
I think Waze is really good 'live traffic' app but I have a friend who owns a Garmin GPS. Doing a side-by-side test holding up my phone running Waze and that Garmin, the Garmin was noticeably better. Of course you might not want another gadget to mess with (Garmin updates are not OTA, you get them online and update using a USB cable on a computer). Also, Google bought up Waze in 2013 and it still remains to be seen how much Waze and Google Maps will be integrated together.

What i was is when im at home I pull up the app and design a route i want to take. And then while im taking it, the phone shows my position on said route. Im mostly thinking about this for a motorcycle ride.
 
Take a look at MapFactor Navigator. It's a free offline GPS navigation app at the play$tore.

Using "way points" you can create custom routes with voice navigation.

Great little app.
 
CoPilot USA is a good one, you can download all of the USA via WiFi in a half hour or so, depends on your internet speed.

If you want Voice Directions, you will need to upgrade to Premium for $9.99

but for me, that was very well worth it.

It is simply the single best app for finding local attractions. Nothing is faster, bar none, not even google.

The downside to this one?
It is not as good as it should be for letting you know "right now" that you are on the correct route.
but, if you keep the screen alive, it shows you the route, and if you get off the route, it will direct you back to it.

The Upside? Nothing, absolutely nothing can beat this map app for versatility in setting how far ahead you want to be alerted to the Next Turn, and how many times do you want that Alert???

yes, all of those.... I tour on my motorcycle on rural roads, and the "1 Mile" marker lets me know a Cross Road is coming up and to watch out for Motorcycle Hunters, those evil Texters who like kill you without even looking.

Basically every navigation app does that.
 
No no. By default nav apps take you on the fastest route between two points. I dont want that. I want to design my route.

Say im in Orlando, FL and i want to go to Nashville, TN. Im looking for a app that allows me to choose a what roads to take in my trip. Not one that takes me on the quickest route.
 
You are ignoring the obvious, every GPS app I have seen, and GPS units all have Via capability.

They do not all take the Fastest Route, that is a "Settings feature", make it Shortest route and I guarantee you will see roads you have never been on before.

Fastest route with proper Via points will do exactly what you want.
 
If you want to customize a road trip I'd use maps.google.com on a computer and then send it to your phone. Set your start and stop points, and then add or alter any changes in between those two by dragging-and-dropping points in between.

Um, no. That's default settings yes. But I haven't encountered any navigation app that won't allow you to set way points. Just set several to define your route. Then you're good to go.

As I mentioned before, using "way points" WHICH YOU SELECT, will allow you to create custom routes which will override fastest/shortest/cheapest routes dictated by the app.

Try it, you'll thank me later...
