Rogue Screen when waking up Nexus 6P

L Dot

Lurker
I don't know how I got this screen, but whenever leaving my phone inactive and charging, it is now the first screen I get. As soon as I swipe the screen, it goes away, leaving no trace or way to uninstall it.
Any ideas welcome!
Thanks.

Do you remember what apps you installed or updated shortly before this started? It will almost certainly be one of those.

If it only happens when charging then anything related to battery monitoring (or any security app) might be a candidate. But probably the only way to identify the culprit will be to uninstall a suspect and see whether it goes away.

I believe it was Google Assistant? I kept getting annoying prompts to install it. I'll try uninstalling it, but you'd think Google apps would be clean.
Thanks.

Google Assistant doesn't do that (assuming it really was Google Assistant that the prompts took you to install).

I have it disabled on my Pixel, but only because I decided that I didn't need it. When I've had it enabled it's never done anything like that.

This is 100% absolutely advertising spawned by an application you have installed. You can verify this by rebooting your phone into Safe Mode, which temporarily disables all installed applications.

You could try using an app like Addons Detector to review which applications use which advertising networks to try and narrow down your list of suspects. Otherwise I'm afraid there's nothing you can do but uninstall apps one at a time until the ads stop.

Thank you for the consideration of your replies. So far nothing I have uninstalled has corrected the problem. I think I should just do a factory reset and start over. Ugh. Again, thanks!

If you do opt for a factory reset, I'd encourage you to not select the option to automatically restore your apps and data from a cloud backup and instead set it up fresh. This makes sure you start with a clean slate and also provides a good opportunity to re-examine your apps and only install those which you actually need or use regularly.
