Virgin Mobile sent me a (used) Samsung Reverb with Jelly Bean installed on it. Yes, I was buying a new phone with Ice Cream Sandwich on it. Don't get me started. . .

Needless to say the phone barely works and won't hold a charge for even a full day. On Standby. They say it's not possible to roll it back to 4.0. I'm thinking there must be a way.

Hello and welcome to Android Forums.

If you received a used phone the battery might be bad. Spin the battery on a flat surface, if it spins easily its bad (looking for a bubble in battery).

Go to: Settings > Device > battery and diagnose where your battery is being utilized. Good chance you can fix the problem.

I have found JellyBean to be fantastic and I wonder where your issues stem from, I doubt JB is 'the' reason, there is something else.
