Root Root and wireless tether

Now that there is a stable root for the 4G touch, has anyone been able to get wifi tether to work? The latest version 3.1 beta 6 is only broadcasting in adhoc mode and bombs with encryption enabled.

I tried the same version (3.1b6) with the same results, doesn't work at all with encryption.

I also haven't been able to get it to work with 4g... my PC can connect, and there is some connectivity, because I could see that GoogleTalk connected, there seemed to be some activity in the web browser, but I couldn't load a web page fully. When I switched back to 3g everything worked fine.

My Windows 7 PC strangely freezes every time I connect, but I'm guessing this is a problem with that computer and ad-hoc networks maybe. I've never had such a problem connecting to any other access point.

Oh. Encryption does not work with wireless tether for root users. Never has. This has never been a problem for me, I just use access control lists to prevent others from connect to it.

That said, keep in mind that if you use it in a public place, nothing is encrypted. So don't go telling CIA secrets over instant messenger ;)

You're wrong, it worked on my Motoroal Droid, HTC Incredible, it's working on my Hero, Evo 4G and Evo 3D.

It never worked on my hero or evo 4g. You're talking WEP password encryption, right? Or WPA is also in the options. You got these to work?

I've been looking thru the XDA threads but I can't seem to zero in on one thing: I know there's a stable, stock kernel available, but as of 10/3, that option does not include CWM. Is there currently (10/4) a stock rooted kernel, or other stable alternative that includes CWM, without inducing LoS or other issues? Thanks.

As much as I like wifi tether and no cable I'm going back to PDAnet until they release a version that works on the Galaxy S2 and does not disable bluetooth.

I dont know why yours wont work. Mine works just fine with the market version, 2.0.7 and im pretty sure we're both using the same xda linked rooted rom with stock kernel.

It does not handle encryption, it disables the bluetooth radio and it only transmits in adhock. If you are getting different results I'd love to hear about it although you have already stated above that encryption does not work which I have stated it does on other phones and others have agreed with me.

I use Wireless Tether (latest beta) on my Nexus S 4G with WPA encryption and it works perfectly on 3G and 4G. If this doesn't work on the Galaxy S II that's a big problem. I use it five days a week while at work.

For the Wifi Tether 3.1b6 to work on encryption this is what i did, i made sure su was fully up to date. 3.0.3 or something binaries for it.. then turned on access controls, connected and applied the fact that my laptop could connect, after that i set up the encryption and made the key my cell number, then changed the name of the tether to Poorboys Pizza, then also changed it to channel 6 works great encryption enabled and working hope this helps a little...
