Root Root and write protection

I bought this garbage phone yesterday cause my S5 screen/LCD is trashed. Little did I know when I got this I would have 0 space left after preinstalled app updates. Can someone point me in the right direction to get the Virgin mobile version rooted and the write protection off so I can clear up some space. I found a few links but nothing I found seems concrete for Virgin Mobile. Thanks
