Root Root anxiety, advice needed

I'd like to root my Razr and remove all the crapware. Will doing so help to improve the performance and/or battery life? The words 'void warranty' give me cold sweats however. If you root, and something happens to the phone and you need to get a warranty replacement, will they be able to tell its been rooted, even if you unroot? Anyone have any experience or knowledge on getting a warranty replacement on a phone that has been rooted?

Well, the reason your warranty would be voided is because you are altering the software and limitations they have put on the phone (they may claim that you overclocked your phone causing the chip to fry). Rooting is NEVER a sure thing. While it rarely causes problems, there is always the possibility that you could brick (render your phone as useful as a brick) your phone and make it useless. It's a risk of rooting.

Returning your phone to stock to get warranty work is a slippery slope. Technically you've already voided your warranty so it really won't matter. That being said, there is a large difference between getting warranty for a defect (such as a power button falling off) and your phone overheating (because you overclocked it after rooting it). From my experience, most manufacturers are usually understanding of the differences and will act accordingly. Just don't try to work the system... that's when the problems arise and when we have to close threads, etc. ;)

The best advice I can give you... don't root until YOU are comfortable with the risks and the benefits.

Yeah, not much for working the system, which is why I haven't rooted any my androids in the last couple years. Hell, been paying insurance for the better part of ten years without a single claim yet(yikes, never thought about it).. Anyhow, I just want to remove the crapware and maybe customize a little.
