I first encountered Safestrap with the Galaxy Note 4... it was a phenomenal option for a device that I really wanted to root & ROM, but the bootloader was (and still is) hopelessly encrypted. Safestrap literally isolates the bootloader and the OS, creating an optional SECOND boot option. You can assign any ROM to Safestrap - better yet, there are four slots for ROMs! You can install four different ROMs, play around with one, reboot into another, etc. without ever affecting the stock OS!
Safestrap became abandonware as the developer moved on to other endeavors. However, it seems that this awesome app has been revived! Just know that while you are running a ROM in Safestrap, any apps that are checking for root status will interpret it as a modified system and won't run (like most Pay and banking apps). But it's an APP... so you can boot back into the stock OS by selecting it at bootup. You can uninstall it easily.
