root locked down android box

Hey guys,

total newbie here so take it easy on me.

i have an ip tv subscription from Europe and bought a box from them. Its running android but its locked down.

my settings section consists of date/time, network, check for updates, From kodi I was able to find out its 7.1.2

Has an amlogic S905x processor.

Basically, it came loaded with the iptv app which automatically loads on power up. It also has kodi installed so i was able to poke around there are bit and thru an apk installer i was able to get chrome installed. I tried to get the google play service installed but it just keeps telling me i have to update it.

I tried browsing in the google play store and install anything. It says the app will be installed soon. I'm guessing this is because the play service isn't running.

Are there any options for me here? I don't even know where to start. What would i like? an accessible OS. So just like the android boxes you buy off amazon with say kodi installed.. i have the home page, i can do updates, etc.

With this one.. it took forever to try and update kodi. I finally found an thru a kodi build wizard an option to update kodi.

Still, don't like the crippled box.

i'm sure i'm not providing enough info here.. so let me know guys what you need and i'll see if i can even access the info. Any help would be much appreciated.

What box is it, make and model, Android version, and who is the IPTV supplier? It could be that it was intended to securely locked down, and maybe impossible to root, hack and modify.

hey Mikedt. Its an Oasis|One mk2 running 7.1.2 the iptv supplier is https://polskatelewizjausa.com/ so for polish tv channels. From what I can see they are reselling from iptv1world
There is no Home screen. When the box is turned on, it automatically goes into the iptv app and my last watched channel appears. It gives me an option to launch a few preloaded apps such as kodi. So what I thought i'd do is try and use kodi to install kingroot maybe? But usually kodi has just a selection top apk's for it.

As far as settings, or file manager.. File structure I can only see from inside kodi. Settings only allows me to change time, date, network connection, and check for updates. No security options.

Ideally i'd love to copy the app and see if I can load it on to a different android box. If that's not possible.. atleast give me an option to force close the app or relaunch it.

the issue I've had is that the app starts to freeze after a while. the provider is saying its a network connection issue which I call BS because I've run speedtests and no issues at all. it requires a 5Mb connection.. I have 50Mb fiber to the home. When these issues come up and I launch kodi... cpu0 is pinned at 100%.

only solution? power cycle.

This appears to be a limited purpose unit, well 'limited' might not be the best word to use, but it is targeted to be a just for media playback. Has a lot of multimedia features packed into it but still it's not a designed to be a typical multipurpose Android device.

It's also running Android's AOSP so while that's nice there's no manufacturer/carrier bloat added, it also a 'clean' Android operating system, so it's not just a matter of just adding the Play Store app to get access to Google's Play Store, you have to install GAPPS which will add in the necessary Google services needed to get the Play Store functional.

With only 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, this might not be a really viable option either. Even if you have the 2GB/16GB variant, again it's by design a single purpose device.

damn... hmm is there a way to put the streaming app on a "legit" android tv box? i'm not looking to make this a full blown media box or anything, but I hate the fact that its locked down like this.

I have no idea if this unit is rootable or otherwise open to hacks, hopefully someone else with more knowledge will reply.
Personally, I'd just enjoy it's current, expansive multimedia capabilities and just buy something less restricted to put your efforts into. If the Kodi app currently on your Oasis allows you to install Kodi plugins you can add even more functionality

You earlier referred to wanting to install Kodi elsewhere. You don't need the ability to pull the Kodi install off your Oasis (that kind of transfer won't work on other devices anyway). Kodi is an Open Source project available for multiple platforms so just download and install it where you can:

I am on the same boat . my IPTV box is locked, my service has expired and i dont want to use them again, since i found something better. the iptv box is useless since i can't use it for anything , is there a way i can format it with a new android OS ?
