Help Root Optimus F3

huntmarv

Newbie
I have an LG Optimus F3. It is a Virgin Mobile prepaid device. My question is this, "Is the rooting directions in this forum accurate information"? Well a couple more questions about root. I believe the files you have to download to root a device are available in Play Store. Does anyone know if those apps/files actually work? Finally, is the risk of bricking bigger with a prepaid device such as mine?
Thanks
PS I have gotten great answers here and it is appreciated.

I haven't read the whole rooting thread on here, but I haven't seen any mention of the root that has worked for me. I tried everything I could find when I got my first f3 and nothing worked. Then I tried iroot and worked perfect first time. Have used it since on my new f3 and worked perfect again. Just google iroot and the first site that comes up should be the place to download the apk. Don't know of anything on the play store that will work so enable install from other sources and download from the web. Bricking shouldn't be a problem unless you start messing with things you don't understand, but that's half the fun of rooting anyway. Especially if you just got the phone, the first thing I would do after rooting is install the twrp recovery from the virgin mobile f3 all things root guide on here. Just make sure to read the whole thread and understand exactly what to do before you start. I posted my experiences on there near the end of the thread for whatever its worth. Then you can do a backup and save it to your computer every time you make a big change on your phone, then if something goes wrong, you can just restore your backup and everything will be great. The most important things to remember to keep from messing up on recovery are never reboot recovery at all except by using the vol down and power keys, and always back up to external sd card and not internal. When you have recovery working, then you can start the fun stuff like using link2sd app to move apps to a 32gb sd card and have space for as many apps as you could possibly want. Good luck!:)
